Preferred the old removable ones and now my worries have been realised. I was never a big fan of the whole sealed batteries design. I bought this in Jan 2012, unfortunate timing just before the later models came out and now I'm pretty darned furious at these profiteering prices for such an apparently minor thing. Please excuse me as I just fell off my chair. 1000 cycles should last the usable life of an Air, unless you're in the 99th percentile of hard use.I just discovered that the cost of replacing the battery in my apparently 'vintage' MacBook Air 2011 ranges between a staggering £175 to a completely ludicrous £265!! In my experience, the first 300 cycles on my MacBook Pro took about 2 to 3 years of pretty heavy use (you can keep track in the System Information app, under the Power section). I swapped the power supply myself and it did not resolve the problem. I took it to Apple and they suggested replacing the power supply. There are no beeps and the fan does not move. Absolutely nothing happens when I press the power button. Or Going 100% to 50% twice.įor comparison, the older batteries (and to my knowledge, most non-Apple batteries) were rated for 300 cycles. It's also worth noting that Apple has improved battery durability considerably over the past few years (I think ever since they went with the "non-removeable" batteries). Do it yourself with an aftermarket battery. If I were you, I'd spend the extra $30 and have Apple do it. Now my Macbook Air has a new lease on life I travel a lot and need good battery life on my Macbook so that I can work on flights, work throughout the day in meetings, do presentations etc.

104 for iFixits battery is a premium and should not be as much of a lottery IMO. However iFixit lists a used 2010/2011 MacBook Air battery for $99 US, and if you mess up anything doing the repair, it won't be covered under warranty. I would rather spin the lottery with Amazon, but as I said, I will go with Apple, as their warranty and return policy is even better. Apple will replace it for $129 US (price varies by country), or you can do it yourself, following iFixit's guide.
